Delegates From Zimbabwe Parliament Pay Courtesy Call To GI-KACE

The Ghana-India Kofi Annan Centre of Excellence in ICT (GI-KACE) on Wednesday, July 9 received a seven-member delegation from the Parliament of Zimbabwe. The purpose of the visit was to provide an opportunity for the delegation to identify best practices that may be adapted to nurture innovation and technological development within Zimbabwe’s ICT landscape and enable the delegation gain a comprehensive understanding of Ghana’s innovation hub model and how it supports start-ups and entrepreneurship. The visit was also to explore the collaborative roles played by government, academia, and the private sector in fostering innovation within the ICT sector.

The Director for GI-KACE, Ing. Dr Collins Yeboah-Afari, in his welcome address, stated that GI-KACE’s achievements have been the motivation behind the role in driving Ghana’s digital transformation and the commitment to fostering innovation across Africa

“The Centre has trained thousands of students in software development, establishing partnerships with global tech giants, and supporting local start-ups through incubation programs. We are not just a training centre, we are the gateway for entrepreneurship and technological advancement,” he emphasized.

Kobi Hemaa Osisiadan-Bekoe, Director for Corporate Affairs at GI-KACE, in her presentation highlighted the key mandates of the Centre and various projects that GI-KACE has successfully executed. “Our goal at GI-KACE is to bridge the digital divide and empower Ghanaians through cutting-edge ICT training, research, and innovation,” she said

Kobi Hemaa Osisiadan-Bekoe, further indicated that, the Centre works with educators, industry experts, and sometimes students to create a curriculum that is practical and problem-solving. The delegates were impressed about the GI-KACE’s curriculum for young learners and were certain to replicate something similar in Zimbabwe to inspire their youth.

Moyo Vusumuzi, Chairperson of the Committee and leader of the delegation, was optimistic that Zimbabwe was ready to partner GI-KACE to open a centre in Zimbabwe to help retain the legacy of Kofi Annan and expand the vision for Zimbabwe’s ICT future. The seven-member delegation of the Portfolio Committee on Information Communication Technology of the Parliament of Zimbabwe was made up of Hon. Moyo vusumuzi, Chairperson of the Committee and leader of the delegation, Hon. Mapiki Joseph, Hon. Munemo Laban, Hon. Makaza Faith, Hon. Mavhudzi Donald, Mrs. Bertha R. Bhobho and Mrs. Betty Munowenyu.
