GI-KACE Signs MoU With GVI To Help Promote Digital Literacy Among Underprivileged Women

The Ghana-India Kofi Annan Centre of Excellence in ICT (GI-KACE) has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Global Vision International (GVI) Ghana to support underprivileged women and children who remain underrepresented in the STEM and tech industries.

The purpose of the MoU is to promote digital literacy in Ghana for children, females, and marginalized groups from lower socio-economic backgrounds.

Dr Collins Yeboah-Afari, the Director-General for GI-KACE, during the signing of the MoU, assured that GI-KACE, being the first advanced information technology institute with a world-class research facility focusing on innovating products and services for individual and institutional advancement, is ever ready to share digital skills content and capacity-building approaches with GVI to help present current STEM education training trends.

The MoU will also support the delivery of ICT and tech-related programs for both GI-KACE and GVI Ghana, streamlining the planning and delivery process and minimizing bureaucracy.

According to the Director-General of GI-KACE, research would be conducted to identify the digital gaps in a selected and agreed-upon community and help address them.

Dr. Collins Yeboah-Afari also indicated that the partnership will engage communities to promote digital learning opportunities and reward people who complete such programs with certification.

The Country Director for GVI Ghana, Matthew Craig, was optimistic about identifying funding opportunities that align with shared priorities within and beyond the partnership.

In attendance were Kobi Hemaa Osisiadan-Bekoe, Director of Corporate Affairs at GI-KACE; Fred Yeboah, Director of Research and Information at GI-KACE; and Katie McKnight, Head of Impact and Partnerships at GVI Ghana.

This MoU will go further to encourage both parties to share skills, expertise, networks, and knowledge that will benefit them in the partnership, as well as develop opportunities and address risks in the ICT field in relation to women and children.

GVI Ghana is a Ghanaian non-profit international development division of Global Vision International that provides a broad range of capacity building, training, and educational programs in the coastal communities between Greater Accra and the Central Region.

Ghana-India Kofi Annan Centre of Excellence in ICT (GI-KACE) is Ghana’s first Advanced Information Technology Institute with a world-class research facility focusing on innovating products and services for individual and institutional advancement.
