The Deputy Director-General of the Ghana-India Kofi Annan Centre of Excellence in ICT (GI-KACE) and Coordinator of the One Million Coders Initiative, Hon. Mohammed Abdul-Aziz, has paid a working visit to the Ghana Investment Fund for Electronic Communications (GIFEC) to secure strategic support for the nationwide rollout of the government’s digital skills programme.
The Deputy Director-General of the Ghana-India Kofi Annan Centre of Excellence in ICT (GI-KACE) and Coordinator of the One Million Coders Initiative, Hon. Mohammed Abdul-Aziz, has paid a working visit to the Ghana Investment Fund for Electronic Communications (GIFEC) to secure strategic support for the nationwide rollout of the government’s digital skills programme.
During the meeting, the CEO of GIFEC, Dr. Sofo Tanko Rashid (Computer), assured GI-KACE of GIFEC’s full commitment. He disclosed that contractors are already refurbishing several Regional Community ICT Centres (RICs) and that funds have been released to fast-track the upgrades.
“By the end of January, several well-prepared ICT centres will be ready for use. We are fully committed to supporting this important government policy and ensuring GI-KACE has the right facilities to begin nationwide training,” Dr. Tanko stated.
He added that GIFEC would ensure all centres meet required standards, including cybersecurity-enabled labs and stable ICT infrastructure.
Hon. Abdul-Aziz proposed closer collaboration between the two agencies, recommending joint technical assessments of all centres to ensure compliance with programme requirements. He noted that coordinated inspections would help identify gaps early and ensure readiness before training begins.
Dr. Tanko welcomed the proposal, describing it as a practical approach that would enhance efficiency and avoid duplication.
The partnership between GIFEC and GI-KACE is expected to play a crucial role in expanding access to ICT training across Ghana and advancing government’s digital transformation agenda.
