Parliamentary Select Committee on Communications Pays Working Visit to GI-KACE

The Parliamentary Select Committee on Communications on Wednesday, October 1, 2025, paid a working visit to the Ghana-India Kofi Annan Centre of Excellence in ICT (GI-KACE). The visit formed part of the committee’s parliamentary oversight responsibilities to familiarise themselves with the operations, innovations, and challenges of the Centre.
The Director-General of GI-KACE, Ing. Dr. Collins Yeboah-Afari, welcomed the delegation and took them through the Centre’s core mandates, innovative ICT solutions, budgetary allocation, achievements, and operational challenges. He assured the committee of GI-KACE’s continued commitment to collaborate with Parliament in shaping the future direction of the Centre to support Ghana’s digital transformation agenda.
Speaking during the visit, the Chairman of the Committee, Hon. Dr. Abed-Nego A. Lamangin Azumah Bandim, emphasised that the visit was crucial in strengthening the committee’s oversight work.
“As a committee, we needed to come here and see what you do, to know what you have been able to achieve all these years, and if you have challenges, we will use our parliamentary tools to help you enhance your operations. This is for the betterment of Ghana,” he noted.
Dr. Bandim further encouraged the leadership of GI-KACE to expedite efforts toward becoming a degree-awarding ICT institution, stressing that such a step would significantly contribute to building the next generation of ICT professionals. He also called on the Centre to deepen private-public partnerships to strengthen its impact.
Highlighting the importance of emerging technologies, the Chairman urged GI-KACE to take a leading role in Artificial Intelligence (AI) research and innovation, positioning the Centre as a pioneer of Ghana’s AI revolution.
