Ing. Dr. Collins Yeboah-Afari
The Director-General for the Ghana-India Kofi Annan Centre of Excellence in ICT (GI-KACE), Ing. Dr. Collins Yeboah-Afari, has stressed the need to make every month a Breast Cancer Awareness Month.

He made this proposal during the annual GI-KACE Pink Week Celebration, a Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) initiative aimed at raising awareness and supporting the fight against breast cancer, and promoting early detection in October each year.
According to him, this year’s global theme for the breast cancer month dubbed ‘Every Story is Unique, Every Journey Matters’ significantly means every single person’s journey with breast cancer is different, that is why is it important to come together with one voice and one purpose to support, empower, and encourage those fighting the disease, and honour the courage of survivors.
Ing. Dr. Yeboah-Afari urged people to get screened for breast cancer frequently because early detection can help save their lives. He also added that statistics have proven that, globally, the lifetime risk of a woman being diagnosed with breast cancer is about one in 20, but the possibility is that when detected early, the five-year survival rate for breast cancer will exceed 90%.
Dr. Ruth Oluyinka, a medical doctor at Trust Hospital, reiterated that Breast cancer awareness is not just a women's issue; it's a human issue. Men and women alike can be affected, and early detection is key to survival.
She remarked that, “by making every month a breast cancer awareness month, we can create a rising support and education that could lead to more lives saved.Breast cancer doesn't discriminate by age, background, or even gender.”
“Let us imagine a world where breast cancer is detected and treated early, where support systems are in place for those affected, and where the stigma associated with the disease is a thing of the past,” she said.
She further stressed on getting screened regularly, supporting breast cancer research, educating yourself and others about breast cancer and showing solidarity with those affected by breast cancer
“Self-examine your breast when you remember—don't wait for a calendar reminder,” she added.
The Pink Week 2025 celebration was packed with diverse activities designed to engage both men and women, beginning with an Awareness Seminar, Free Breast Screenings, Pinky Outreach program focusing on distributing informational flyers to the public, Pinky Profession and Power Up Day and Pinky Funky Friday which climaxed the week-long celebration.
