In his remarks, Hon. Samuel Nartey George tasked the board with an urgent mandate: to work towards securing a legislative framework for GI-KACE, as the Centre currently operates without an enabling Act of Parliament. He stressed that a legislature would not only enhance the Centre’s autonomy but also strengthen its mandate to drive the nation’s digital transformation agenda.
The Minister also highlighted other priority areas, including expanding digital skills training, fostering strategic partnerships to enhance research and capacity building, and promoting the adoption of GI-KACE e-Government solutions to accelerate the growth of the digital economy.
Speaking on behalf of the board, Hon. Felix Akwetey Okle expressed the team’s commitment to diligently executing their mandate and aligning their work with H.E. President John Dramani Mahama’s vision for ICT and innovation. He also conveyed the board’s gratitude to the President for the confidence reposed in them.
As an agency under MoCDTI, GI-KACE continues to pursue its core mandates of Research and Innovation, ICT Capacity Building, and Consultancy, serving as a catalyst for ICT sector growth in Ghana, the ECOWAS sub-region, and beyond.
