Pickup Careers in ICT to Boost Innovation and Efficiency in Energy Management – Oheneyere Augustina Asare Osei

Oheneyere Augustina Asare Osei, Head of Government Relations at Ghana Gas has advocated for more women to participate and delve deep into ICT to help foster innovation and enhance efficiency in energy management.

She made this known during the FEMITECH 2025 Conference organized by the Ghana-India Kofi Annan Centre of Excellence in ICT (GI-KACE).

The FEMITECH Conference is an annual event that brings together women from across the tech industry with diverse backgrounds in ICT to share their stories and experiences and learn about new and emerging trends in the technology space. This year, the conference, which is in its third edition, took place in five regions: Oti, Greater Accra, Upper East, Bono, and Ashanti.

Speaking on the topic ‘The Role of ICT in Transforming the Energy Sector’, she indicated that the energy sector has evolved over the years and it is now driven by technological advancements that are reshaping how production, distribution, and consumer energy operate.

‘‘As our world increasingly prioritises sustainability and efficiency, the integration of ICT has become even more pivotal,’’ she said.

According to her, ICT plays a key role in how the energy sector optimizes the energy distribution, reduces wastage, and improves overall grid management.

She added that technology has played a vital role in managing renewable energy sources, such as solar and wind, and in advancing systems that can forecast energy production and balance it with demand effectively.

She further indicated that ICT helps organizations cut costs by streamlining operations and optimizing resource allocation while enhancing the reliability of energy infrastructure, as a monitoring system can quickly detect emerging problems and faults.

‘‘At Ghana Gas, we have leveraged Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition (SCADA) systems, a Smart Grid Technology, to track the flow of natural gas in real-time and manage operations at the Atuabo Gas Processing Plant and its ancillary facilities.
