FEMITECH to Keep Honoring Women’s Success in ICT – Ing. Dr Collins Yeboah-Afari

Ing. Dr Collins Yeboah-Afari, the Director-General (DG) for the Ghana-India Kofi Annan Centre of Excellence in ICT (GI-KACE) has stated that the Centre will continue to recognize the amazing accomplishments women have made in diverse fields, especially the ICT sector, through its Females in Tech (FEMITECH) conference.

Delivering a welcome address at the third edition of the FEMITECH conference which took place on March 7 2025 at GI-KACE, he assured that the event is an annual celebration that remains resolute on encouraging more women to take up careers and leadership roles in ICT.

According to him, the current situation of women making up less than a third of the world’s workforce in technology-related fields is worrying.

“Over the years, GI-KACE has collaborated with MoCDTI, the World Bank and several Corporate organizations to institute several social interventions like Women in Tech, Girls in ICT and Girls Can Code among others to break barriers, shatter glass ceilings, and increase the number of female representations in ICT,” he noted.

Hon. Samuel Nartey George, Minister for Communication, Digital Technology, and Innovations, has called on male leaders to leverage their positions to drive gender equity in the ICT sector by mentoring and championing women’s advancement.

Speaking at the FEMITECH conference, he emphasized the event’s role in empowering women in technology to advocate for gender equity and lead impactful initiatives. While acknowledging progress, he urged organizations to adopt unbiased recruitment practices that prioritize diversity. He further pledged to implement positive discrimination for women-led tech businesses under his tenure, aiming to boost female participation and leadership in the sector.

The conference featured several distinguished speakers, including:

  • Prof. Elsie Effah Kaufmann, Associate Professor and Dean of the School of Engineering Sciences at the University of Ghana.
  • Ing. Dr. Lucy Agyepong, Vice President of Institutional Advancement at Academic City University College.
