Girls In ICT Day 2023: Kobi Hemaa Encourages Girls To Report Suspicious Activities

The Director of Corporate Affairs and Media Relations at Ghana-India Kofi Annan Centre of Excellence in ICT (GI-KACE), Kobi Hemaa Osisisadan-Bekoe has encouraged girls to report suspicious activities. With the increasing use of social media, chat rooms, and online gaming, girls are becoming more vulnerable to online predators and cyberbullies.

Speaking at an online seminar organised by GI-KACE on International Girls In ICT Day for girls in Senior High School in Oti region, she emphasized the importance of educating girls on the potential dangers of the internet and social media, as well as empowering them with the tools to protect themselves.

According to Kobi Hemaa, “It is important for Girls to know how to identify and avoid online predators, and what to do if they feel threatened or uncomfortable online.” She also provided practical tips for girls to stay safe online, including: Keep personal information private, Girls should avoid sharing personal information online, such as their full name, address, phone number, or school name, and the use of privacy settings on social media and other online platforms to limit who can see their profile and posts.

The webinar also featured a session that covered various career mentorship in the IT industry facilitated by Madam Lucy Dwomoh, a Lecturer at the GI-KACE.

She provided insights into the opportunities in the industry and encouraged the girls to take up careers in ICT.

The girls were enthusiastic and engaged throughout the event, asking questions and sharing their own experiences. They were excited to learn that a career in ICT was not limited to just programming or web design, but that there were various other opportunities available in the industry.

The online seminar which was organised for girls in Oti Region was attended by over 700 girls nationwide. Participants appreciated the practical advice and expert insights provided by the staff of GI KACE.
