AITI-KACE Trains Several Kids In Scratch, Robotics, IOT Electronics, And Python

The Ghana-India Kofi Annan Centre of Excellence in ICT has trained over 50 kids in coding, robotics, python, Internet of Things (IoT) and other emerging trends in ICT.

The kids between the ages of nine and 17, were taken through rigorous but fun training at the Centre for two weeks before being presented with certificates for taking part in the course.

The two weeks course dubbed ‘Vacation Coding Class’ was held at the Centre to engage kids productively during their short vacation to enable them build human capacity and digital communities empowered with emerging technologies in solving African’s problems.

Students were trained to build robots and circuits, understand how traffic lights work through programming, create interactive games and stories among others to equip them with the opportunities available for the job market as well as assist them in their various studies.

The Director-General for AITI-KACE, Dr. Collins Yeboah-Afari, giving his closing remarks stated that “As part of our mandate, we are quite keen on playing our part in bridging the gender digital divide.”

“Let me also add that we will be happy to arrange for some of you to take part in our courses for free and also intern here during your vacations in the not-too-distant future. It was an exciting moment during the ‘Vacation of Coding Class’ when after the training, the kids did several amazing 3D printing from their own personal designs,” Dr Yeboah-Afari said.

Dr. Yaw Okraku-Yirenkyi, Director for Studies at AITI-KACE, appreciated the efforts the kids had placed in all the activities and studies done in the past two weeks. He also urged the students to be disciplined in all their endeavours.

“I appreciate you for joining us here at the Centre. It was insightful and very educative and I believe it will go a long way to help in future,” he noted.

The President for the IoT Network Hub, Joshua Agyemang assured the students that, his organization and AITI-KACE will jointly develop and implement IoT campus initiatives at the secondary and tertiary level.
